➸ Home

For a place as mysterious and full of unanswered mysteries as it is, Home is rather… homey. Made from an enormous sprawling tree larger than many may have ever seen in their lives, it is still thriving quite well for all that it has been repurposed into a house.

There’s only one entrance into the home, and the only sign from the outside that this is a house and not a tree. At first glance, it only seems like a small cottage twenty feet wide and maybe ten long. However, once inside, it becomes apparent that what looks like the cottage nestled against the tree is only the entry way into the rest of the home where residents and visitors alike can hang up their coats and cloaks.

The rest of the house continues on that small cottage feeling, not at all seeming like it’s inside of a tree. Continuing on inside leads to a large room that acts as a mishmash of various others, with a few closet doors and the door to the Study being the only other places to go besides up the stairs. Directly to the left of the entrance is the dining area, a large table for half a dozen people taking up most of the space but along with a couple much smaller tables. Not too far nearby is a kitchen area with many countertops and old wood stoves and stone ovens that means at least a few different cooks can be in the kitchen. Both these areas, instead of a wooden floor, have one of stone. While basic utilities are stored around, such as simple plates and hanging pots and pans, the space so far seems fairly undecorated and any food is to be supplied by the inhabitants.

The same can be said for the rest of the first floor, which has simple couches and chairs with a curvy curling design to their frames, all centered around a pillar with a fireplace of sorts at the cellar. With the four different holes connecting to one spot, all parts of the first floor are guaranteed to be warm when it’s lit. In the back, past the stairs, is a decently sized communal bathing area. It's rudimentary, but there seems to be a system that allows a little flowing water. Back in the common area, to the right is the door leading into the Study.

The sole exception is the wall between the Study and the stairs leading to the upper floors. There, one can find what seems to be a large notice board over a small table. There, constantly no matter what, is a small open tray of papers of varying sizes along with various writing tools: a feather pen and ink, some charcoal, simple pencils. Hung on the edge of the table is a childish sign with the words Free Use! painted onto it clumsily like a child was wearing mittens when they did it.

The Study’s bookshelves, unlike many other places within the home, are filled with books. However, upon inspection, they all seem to be blank… Over time, however, they will fill up. Only those who check on them more than once, however, will realize this. A couple of desks, small sidetables, and drawers also fill up the room. The space is somewhat tight. Despite this, someone seems to have seen fit to have put an almost human-shaped little cactus near the window where it can bathe in the sunlight. There’s a feeling almost like it’s watching and listening to those who visit the Study…

Towards the back of the Common Area are the stairs leading up to the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth floors. These are all the bedroom floors, with each floor sharing a bathroom where three people can fit in comfortably. The toilet isn’t the flushing sort, but more like a very fancy hole that leads… somewhere. Buckets of water have to be brought up for if you want to wash your hands or brush your teeth, unfortunately.

The good news is that the bedrooms (six to a floor) all seem to be somewhat spacious. This is helped by the fact that both beds are built into the walls, nestled into a comfortable hole. While there is one shared table, there’s also pairs of chests, drawers, and closets. If you’re sharing a room with someone, the good news is that at least you’ll have space for your own things.

For those who try to venture upwards, they'll find that the stairs past the sixth floor almost seem to keep going as if for a seventh floor... but run into what appears to be solid wood.

Outside of the house, there’s a path that leads all around the tree and leads to three separate areas.

Straight to the right outside the steps of Home is a path curving away from the path leading out into the world and down a steep hill. The dirt seems to have been well worn into steps of a sort, and lead into a small clearing amidst tangles of bushes, weeds, and small trees that are dwarfed further still by Home’s own branches. This is where people find themselves awakening if they die.

Going around past the exit path and orchard steps, one eventually finds themselves on a path that pauses at what appears to be a small hill. Upon further inspection, it becomes apparent that the hill was once a building of some sort. However, the entrance is collapsed and a large root from Home seems to be going through it somehow. To the left is a small well. The right is where the path turns sharply and keeps going.

To the left of Home, one can find a large stretch of field surrounded by a simply made wooden fance. An arch with a distinctly cat shaped top welcomes anyone into it. Not too far off is what looks like a small barn area. Stalls for horses- or large things that are the size of horses- are available all along the bottom. Up top in the hayloft, what appears to be some nests have been set up. When characters find eggs, they can put them here to hatch. If a character has been brought in with an animal companion of some sort and they’re too large to fit in Home, this is where they’ll be usually found.
